What is Private Fostering?

This is a private fostering arrangement that is set up by a child’s parent and is due to last for 28 days or more and the child is under 16 (18 if they have a disability). These children are cared for by someone who is not a close relative (not a parent or step parent, aunt or uncle or sibling.

There are many different reasons for Private Fostering arrangements.

There are many reasons why other people care for children. Some parents ask family members, neighbours or friends to care for their children when they are ill or during a family crisis.

Do you know anyone who is privately fostered?

Everyone has a duty to notify the local authority that a child is being privately fostered. This notification ensures that an assessment is completed to help keep the child safe.

Takeover Challenge!

Do you know any young people who might be up for joining in the Takeover Challenge and taking over the role of an officer from the Voluntary Sector, the Council, the Police, or the CCG for the day. All the information you need to know is in the following link https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/takeover-challenge/  Takeover challenge is running from the 20 November until the 1 December 2017.

Contact us using the details at the top of this blog post  for an Interest form attached and sending it back to us as soon as possible, then we will match you with an adult whose role you can take over, it may be a police officer, a senior decision maker within the local authority, or you might get lucky and end up with me!

Make it Happen – hear about some amazing things people want to start in their communities and be on a panel to decide what funding and support they receive to make it happen. This event is happening on Saturday 28 October, it’s an all-day event with lunch provided.

Participatory Appraisal – doing the doing! – an exciting opportunity to take part in some training, learn new skills and well ultimately learn how to do what I do! Great to put on your CV! Learn a fun new way to help you find out what other young people think and feel about what makes the thrive. We are offering up to 20 young people the opportunity to be involved. This is happening on Wednesday 25th and Thursday 26th October, followed by  a bit of a jolly on the morning of the 27th. This training will make a difference as it will feed into the Neglect Strategy and help to create awareness through a media campaign for people in Dudley. Guerrilla Gardening! – are you potty about planting! Interested in turning grot spots into hot spots! Turning community spaces into thriving growing places. Sign up & grow! This could be an ongoing project. Let’s bung in some bulbs now so that flowers spring up in April!

Airtime – Air time is a peer support group that helps people with respiratory difficulties. They are looking for some young people with amazing skills in video making and editing to help promote what they do. This will need to happen on 26 October

Dudley Prevent Refresher Training

Dudley’s Prevent Delivery Group have organised and update/refresher session in respect of “Prevent” to update colleagues on local issues and provide a refresh on referral pathways.

A session has been booked for Tuesday 17th October, 2017 at DY1, Stafford Street, Dudley  1.45 p.m. for 2.00 p.m. start. There are 100 places available and these are “bookable” through eventbrite. I would be grateful if you could cascade the invite within your organisation please.
